Fannie Mae Offers "Five-Step" Guides on Homeownership
In observance of National Homeowner Month, Fannie Mae produced a series of "five-step" guides to help educate existing and prospective homeowners, including those who may be struggling with finances. Each theme provides five specific tips.
The themes for the first three guides are (1) Actions to take before buying a home; (2) how housing counselors can help; and (3) protect yourself from mortgage modification scams.
For potential homeowners, the guide recommends five steps designed to help "get the right house" and the "affordable financing that helps make homeownership a long-tem success." In brief, the steps cover:
Get educated
Get your finances in order
Establish a budget
Start saving
Get pre-approved.
In addition to the guides, the Fannie Mae site has help links, a glossary of terms, and a Fannie Mae loan lookup tool.
