Searching for a home that meets specific accessibility needs can be challenging, but NWMLS (Northwest Multiple Listing Service) makes it easier. In 2018, NWMLS introduced a variety of accessibility search filters, allowing brokers to find properties for their clients with important features that support mobility, hearing, vision, and overall ease of use.
Accessibility Features
NWMLS brokers can filter for properties with features such as:
- Step-free entrances and pathways for easier access
- Accessible kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms designed for mobility
- Smart technology to enhance convenience and independence
- Ceiling track systems for lifting and transferring support
- Hearing and vision modifications for improved communication and safety
- Elevators or lifts installed for multi-level access

Additional Accessibility Information
To provide even more detail, sellers and their brokers can complete NWMLS’s Accessibility Information Supplement, which includes 48 specific accessibility features. This document, available with listings, helps buyers understand how a home might meet their unique needs.
Leading the Way in Accessibility
NWMLS was the first multiple listing service in the U.S. to introduce these accessibility-focused features. Because of this innovation, NWMLS received a “Best Practices Award” from Northwest Access Fund, a nonprofit organization serving individuals with disabilities. By offering these tools, NWMLS helps ensure that every homebuyer—regardless of ability—has access to a home that fits their lifestyle.
