To help brokers and consumers find homes that fit the needs of all buyers, NWMLS added a variety of accessibility search fields in 2018. These fields give brokers the ability to highlight and search for homes with special features, assistive devices, and other universal design principles that are important to individual buyers’ needs.
Brokers may list or search for properties with these important features:
Accessible Approach
Accessible Entrance
Accessible Central Living/Common Area
Accessible Bedroom
Accessible Bathroom
Accessible Kitchen
Accessible Utility
Modifications for Hearing/Vision
Accessible Elevator or Lift Installed
Ceiling Track
Smart Technology
In addition, brokers and their sellers can fill out NWMLS’s “Accessibility Information Supplement” and upload it to their listings, which provides 48 definitions and delineations of the various features within each checkbox.
NWMLS was the first multiple listing service in the country to add these features, and earned a “Best Practices Award” from Northwest Access Fund, a nonprofit organization serving individuals with disabilities.
