Tom Hurdelbrink, retired President & CEO of Northwest MLS (NWMLS) was inducted into the Council of Multiple Listing Services (CMLS) Hall of Fame during the CMLS conference (CMLS2024) on September 25th. The honor is a means of recognizing and acknowledging a lifetime of leadership, energy, and intellect that improves and elevates the multiple listing services industry.
“Tom’s fearless leadership, paired with his steady demeanor, has been an example for the industry during times of massive change. He has an unwavering focus on what is right for his members and their clients, and found the balanced approach that serves everyone well,” said Denée Evans, CEO of CMLS.
Tom has had a long and distinguished career in the MLS/real estate industry that spans several states and 34 years. His dedication and passion for the MLS industry shows in his daily work and his participation with many different organizations throughout the country. His involvement with the industry began in 1989 where he served as President and CEO of the Northern Ohio Regional Multiple Listing Service for 11 years. He then spent two years at Realtor.com (Homestore.com/Move) as the VP of MLS relations. He was a Staff VP at the California Association of REALTORS and Real Estate Business Services for five years where he was responsible for product management for real estate forms, real estate education, and various transaction related products. He was hired as the President and CEO of Northwest Multiple Listing Service in July of 2007.
“As CEO Tom paid close attention to every detail of our organization. He was committed to excellence in all we do. He cares deeply about his staff and members and promotes creative thinking at all levels. He believes great ideas are made in teams and promotes collaboration. Tom ensured that NWMLS maintained a standard for providing the highest possible caliber of customer service and products to our members. His leadership qualities include integrity, credibility, vision, influence, inspiration and progressiveness,” says Monica Beck, COO of NWMLS.
Hurdelbrink and his team were instrumental in the adoption of significant rules and forms changes that led to greater transparency, flexibility and options for NWMLS brokers and their clients. He has also served and participated in various real estate boards and groups including the CMLS Board of Directors, MRED Board of Directors, COVE MLS Group, Real Estate Standards Organization, Washington Society of Association Executives and the American Society of Association Executives.
Hurdelbrink’s induction into the CMLS Hall of Fame was preceded by Lauren Hansen in 2023, John Mosey in 2022, Kathy Condon in 2021, David Charron in 2020, Cathy Holefelder in 2019, Jack Johnson in 2017, Ann Bailey in 2016, Brian Larson in 2015, Pat Bybee in 2013, Jeannette Biddle in 2012, and Peter Shuttleworth in 2011. The honor recognizes the contributions of the inductee to CMLS and the MLS industry at the close or culmination of the inductee’s career in the MLS industry. Although inductees are recognized at the annual CMLS conference, the award is not necessarily given on an annual basis.
